Position Yourself To Be Found

Let me be transparent for a moment. When the Holy Spirit prompted me to write about love and romance, I debated. After all, I’m very much single. But as I sat with those mixed feelings, I realized that many of us, both men and women, still hope that love is part of our future.

Many of us may be waiting (or even actively searching) and doing the necessary work to become whole and better or are in the midst of that journey. But sometimes, that hope feels deferred, and our hearts grow weary. Be reassured that God-ordained love and marriage is real. You aren't abnormal for having this desire.

I reflected on my season of waiting and preparation, circling back to a key moment when the Holy Spirit exposed areas in me that needed healing to redeem me. It was one of the most vulnerable experiences I’ve had, like being stripped bare before the Lord. No one enjoys being exposed. The Holy Spirit revealed that bitter roots and inner vows had caused calluses in my heart. He led me through a purging process that felt like going through open heart surgery without anesthesia.

Was I done with the process, though? Reflecting on this, I realized I’m currently in the ‘presentation’ stage. I’m ready to be found, but I had no clue what presenting well entailed, so I sought the Holy Spirit for guidance.

Here’s what He showed me: Before Esther became Queen (Esther 2), she was given an opportunity, like other beautiful ladies, to present herself before the king after an elaborate preparation process. The Bible tells us that ‘the king loved her more than any other woman. He was so delighted with her.’ (Esther 2:17).

When the Lord restores a person from a season of feeling forsaken, neglected, or desolate, He beautifies their life. By beautifying your life, God expresses His love for you, His delight in you, and His commitment to you. His glory on your life, coupled with Him holding you in His hand, means He will now present you as a spectacle - but not just any spectacle—one that is beautiful, radiant, and full of His glory. You become like a splendid crown of beauty (Isaiah 62:1 -4)

Beauty and splendor are not only attributes of God—they reflect His presence in our lives. It’s not enough to say you’re healed and transformed. God cares about how you present yourself after that healing and transformation. For those of us now in the ‘presentation’ phase, here are two crucial tips for positioning yourself to be found:

  • When the opportunity to date presents itself, introduce your restored and transformed self well. Walk comfortably in your identity as a son or daughter of God.

  • Don’t self-sabotage: When God brings a good gift- a potential spouse- don’t return to your vomit and fall back into old behaviors or patterns. Don’t act as if you haven’t been healed or restored.

Beautiful crowns cannot be hidden. God didn’t restore you so that He could hide you. You’re meant to be seen, admired, and loved- not in your strength but in His glory.
