The Cricket Response

Writer's picture: NikoleNikole

A person stands arms outstretched on cracked, dry, barren landscape.

I’d reached a place in 2024 where I was not only at rock bottom, but said rock bottom was cracking and crumbling. I’d done all the things – prayed, fasted, cried, begged, bound, loosed, worshipped – but, as far as my eyes could see, nothing was changing. I know God is real. I’ve seen Him do many different things for many people. Yet, when I spoke to Him, His response felt like crickets chirping.

Rather than abandoning God, I said to Him, “Okay, I’ll keep praying for others, believing for others, but not for myself. I know You’ll heal them, take care of them, and give them their miracles. I’ll obey You, but I won’t expect You to move on my behalf.”

Shortly after, I heard about the Let There Be Challenge. Honestly, I was skeptical, but I was also desperate, so I joined.  I spoke the declarations and Scriptures that I’d written down. Every. Single. Day. And still, crickets. I expected to see some grand shift in my situation, my life, and everything pertaining to myself and those I was also decreeing over. I felt like Elijah’s servant looking for the rain cloud (1 Kings 18:41-46). I saw nothing changing on the outside.   Yet, as the challenge began to wind down, I felt a noticeable shift inside me.

Looking back now, maybe the words coming out of my mouth during the challenge were filling in the cracks of my rock-bottom place.  Inside, I’m not the same. Is there an abundance of rain in my life now? My situation has not yet changed in the natural, but I see a speck of a cloud far off in the distance (1 Kings 18:44).

If you’re yet to see your evidence of rain, keep holding on. The pressure, drought, and heat may feel unbearable. But every day, expect the rain.  While you’re waiting, and God seems silent, consider the possibility that the work is being done inside you before the evidence appears on the outside. Talk to God. Be honest with Him. Then trust Him through the cricket response.
