You Gotta Testify

Torn brown paper reveals the text "Share your story" on a white background, conveying an invitation to express oneself.

In the small fellowship group I’m part of, we make it a point to share what God has done for us over the week. It’s a powerful practice that encourages us to reflect on His goodness, regardless of the size of the blessing. But when we first started, many of us felt awkward sharing our testimonies.

At the beginning of 2025, the Holy Spirit led me to share my testimony on a public platform, and I obeyed. It was a few short lines of how the Lord had powerfully moved on my behalf. But as the apostle read my testimony aloud, I began to feel unsettled. That feeling of awkwardness that I thought I’d overcome started creeping back in.

I received messages from people thanking and praising God for the wondrous miracle He had performed. For others, my testimony had encouraged them. Yet, all I could focus on, or rather, what I allowed the enemy to whisper in my ear, was the thought that now everyone knew my secret struggle. I had no money to meet a particular financial obligation at the time.

At that moment, I wasn’t focused on the blessing but on the perceived weakness the miracle had revealed. I wrestled with that thought and let it take root in my mind. But then the Lord sent my sister to remind me of something important: this testimony wasn’t about me, my finances, or any perceived lack. It was about glorifying God.

Psalm 66:16 says, “Come and hear, all you who fear God; let me tell you what He has done for me.”  This testimony was about lifting up the Name of the Lord and declaring His goodness. Not only did it glorify Him, but it was meant to encourage others and remind them of the power of God in their own lives.

Revelation 12:11 says, “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.”  Our testimonies help us overcome the enemy and proclaim the greatness of our God. They serve as a reminder that God is active in our lives, and He is faithful, even when we are weak.

The real blessing I experienced from sharing my testimony was the realization that it wasn’t about me. It was about exalting the Name of the Lord. It was about encouraging others to trust God in their lives, knowing that if He did it for me, He could do it for them.

Don’t let the enemy silence your voice. Consider what God has done for you. You gotta testify. As you do, remind yourself that your testimony isn’t about you- it’s about exalting God’s glory and sharing His love and mercy with those around you. Embrace the vulnerable moments, even when you feel uncomfortable. When we shift our focus from our weaknesses to His greatness, our stories become potent instruments for building faith in others.

I really needed this. Thank you for the encouragement as well as the perspective shift. I'm going to be more intentional about using my voice, sharing my testimony and glorifying God. The enemy prefers our silence but in using our voice, in glorifying God, people are set free.
